On Friday 24th April 2009, the Silver Surfers hosted a visit from Rachel
Black, who has recently been very busy fundraising on behalf of ACE IT.

Rachel first became aware of ACE IT when her Grandmother joined the ‘Moose
In The Hoose’ computer access project in Porthaven Residential Care Home in
Edinburgh. She was very grateful to ACE IT for the work the Moose volunteers
had accomplished in ‘widening the horizons’ of both her Grandmother and the
other residents in the home.

Rachel works in the IT department of the Royal Bank of Scotland and started
fund-raising for ACE IT after her Gran passed away last year.
Over the autumn Rachel organised and hosted a series of fundraising events
supported by RBS, which included a special ‘Dress Down’ day at the bank’s
headquarters and a ‘Wii’ Competition Night where a selection of prizes had
been donated by Edinburgh based businesses, restaurants etc. The Competition
was a huge success with money raised going to both ACE IT and
CHAS.(Children’s Hospice Association Scotland)
Royal Bank Of Scotland ‘match-funds’ all sums raised for charity at such
events - the initial amount raised was in effect doubled. In addition,
Rachel has since been regularly ‘shaking a can’ under the staff’s collective
nose to great success!

It was a relaxing, informative - and funny – afternoon. We all got to
know each other over tea, coffee and cakes and before long it felt as though
we had always known each other.
The Surfers are so pleased to have had the opportunity to meet Rachel in
person to give her a great big Thank You for supporting ACE IT to the tune
of £1265 !! .
We all look forward to seeing her again very soon!
