In November we were invited
to join other groups involved in The Moose in the Hoose Project at
the launch of its evaluation report at the Scottish Parliament on
21st November

Moose in the Hoose is a
project involving the use of computers and the internet by care home
residents in Edinburgh
It’s a partnership project between the City of Edinburgh Council’s
Health and Social Care department (H&SC) and two voluntary
organisations: ACE IT (Age Concern Edinburgh Information Technology
project) and RSVP (the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme of
Community Service Volunteers
There must
have been about 100 people in the main committee room – it really
was quite a heart warming sight to see so many older people in
Parliament!
There were many residents from the care homes (some quite frail but
all of whom participant every week in the project) with carers and
volunteers. There were also representatives from other organisations
such as Help the Aged, Better Government for Older People and the
Care Commission along with council officials.

Jenny Ridge
from ACE IT introduced the main speakers and supporters of the
project : Sarah Boyack MSP, Councillor Norman Work , Brid Cullen and
Peter Gabbitas the Director of Health & Social Care
The project has placed 18 volunteers in 7 residential care homes and
2 sheltered housing complexes in Edinburgh. The plan is to extend
this project into a further 3 homes in 2008.
As usual we enjoyed the hospitality and having a good chat with
everyone – it’s amazing to see what a difference the computer and
the Internet is making to the lives of all older people ! Long may
it continue!
