Surfers Day Oot... A Day at the Castle

dayoot011One fine day in the middle of the night (just kidding) – the Surfers went to the Castle and took some photos and had a great day out.

We started off on the Esplanade with some fun shots and some scenic shots. Lovely views from the Castle over to the Old Town and towards the Crags and Arthur’s Seat with lots of changes in the sun and cloud ‘lovely atmospheric shots’!!!

Unfortunately there was still a lot of scaffolding from the Tattoo which sort of limited our options.

So we meandered down to the Hub passing on the way some of the Ramsay Gardens houses, then the Camera Obscura and the Witchery Restaurant where more photos were taken.

dayoot002On reaching the top of the Royal Mile we carried on downwards towards Deacon Brodie’s Pub and theTron.

Before that point however we nipped down one of the lovely old closes which led us into a hidden square behind the Royal Mile. A world of a bygone age brought into the 21st century and still a ‘lived-in’ neighbourhood today.

Lots of lovely old stonework and paving stones. some of which had quotations from Scotland’s famous writers and poets. One particular point of interest was the Writers’ Museum.

Finally and to round off the intellectual part of our tour we headed into an olde worlde howff – the Jolly Judge and we can recommend the snacks and refreshments available in this lovely old hostelry.
