On Tuesday 1st February we had our first ‘Surfers Day Out’
of 2011 when we accepted an invitation to visit ‘Café Life’
in Stockbridge House, Cheyne Street, Stockbridge, Edinburgh.
The café is managed by ‘Lifecare’ who once owned Dalry House
– the original home of the Edinburgh Silver Surfers.

Our visit provided a fantastic opportunity
to meet up with various friends from the old days. In
particular we were delighted to be joined by Aillie and
Pinkie and it was great to be able to sit down for a good
long chat and to catch up on everyone’s news in the café’s
warm and relaxed atmosphere.

While
Lifecare provide a wide range of centre based care services
and recreational activities for the frail, elderly and those
with dementia within Stockbridge House, the café has also
proven popular with local residents of all ages and has
become a real resource for the local community.
The premises are obviously well used by local workers,
residents and those with young families - There was a lot of
wheelchair traffic as we arrived and at one point there was
a game of chess in progress. A well placed notice board
provided information on classes and events within the centre
including a free Tea Dance which takes place on Thursday
11th February from 2pm till 4pm.
We are all agreed that the visit was both interesting and
hugely enjoyable. The café is most impressive, spacious and
airy and the menu was varied and, most importantly… VERY
reasonably priced …which really suited us as Senior
Citizens!
