Throughout 2007 the computer training programme continued to be an
ongoing success with classes undertaken in a pleasant friendly atmosphere.
To date 3,000 learners have completed the course.
Maria presented a report concerning training courses and the work undertaken
with new clients. It was pointed out that engaging with the clients own
interests was of prime importance and Maria went on to describe how she had
utilised the songs of Edith Piaff to demonstrate the versatility of the web.
Learners made the following comments:
• “Very enjoyable – Tutors made it very clear – Not condescending”
• “I am very surprised at the patience of the tutors – I enjoyed the
free and easy atmosphere of the workshops”
• “I was not interested in computing but you changed my life”
The Edinburgh Silver Surfers also continued onward and upwards with
special days out compiling material for the Edinburgh Silver Surfers website
alongside helping other local or national organisations with promotional
features and reviews.
The statistics show that the surfers’ website received an average of 7000
visits per day - while the ACE IT website averaged 22,000 hits per day.
The Moose in the Hoose project is a partnership between the City of
Edinburgh Council, ACE IT and CSV/RSVP. During 2007 – 2008 The project was
particularly successful in taking IT into Day Care and Residential Homes.
Pat and Carol gave a detailed report on the ongoing progress which included
showing an album with cards, photos and cuttings gathered over the year –
the Memorable Moments Album.
Tribute was paid to Simon, ACE IT’s newest and youngest tutor. Simon has
recently started a course at University so will have less time to spend with
ACE IT but he sent a letter telling of his future plans and how much he had
enjoyed being a part of the Team. He still hopes to be involved albeit to a
lesser degree.
